“The embodied Otherness”
In this submission for MEd Learning and Teaching Arts at the RCS, aspects of the marginalization of Raqs (“Bellydance”) in the political west were analysed under the aspect of gender and of Orientalism as a politic agenda of representation. The status of this dance, usually perceived as “otherness”, reflects the challenge of overcoming a sexist and colonialist view of arts.
